Attention, Kerry Robbins...

...if you're out there, and I know you are, drop me an e-mail on my home address, please. Computer problems accidentally purged my home address book, and I'd like to talk to you...

Thanks,
Ziegler

Test...

Ignore this one. It's simply a test. Voot!

But Wait! There's More!

Get 'em in...

Get your suggestions for the shirts in ASAP. Also, if you're interested in Patriot Invitational Staff shirts, let's make a move on it sooner than that! The tournament will be here before you know it.

Tournament Talkback...

Great job at the tournament today, everyone! As I said after awards, I'm very proud of all the work you've done over the past 2-3 weeks. We've seen some of this hard work pay off at tournament time now, so I hope we'll remember this when we're preparing for the October tournament and the UOP invitational.

A couple of people (parents and kids) mentioned that they'd like a place to talk about the tournament and things they saw and questions they had. Consider this to be that place. List anything you want to talk about in Comments, and we'll work it over.

BTW, I know PSAT is on October21, but check with your counselor or the College Board website (www. collegeboard.com) about taking the test at another school site on another date. Mrs. Mundorf in the Career Center can answer questions about that, too.

Finally, if anyone took any pictures they'd like to share, send 'em to me (either here or at school) and we'll post 'em here on the blog.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Mr. Z.

It's that time again...

...Time for the annual angst over what to put on this year's forensics shirts. Do we want a design (a la last year's monkey shirt) or just a saying (as with the "Destroying Self-Esteem..." shirt of 2004)? Both? Kick it around, post any ideas for slogans in the comments section. Meanwhile, here's a couple to get you started:

We Don't Rebuild, We Reload.
Torn Between Conflicting Nietzschean Paradigms (I'll explain this one on Monday)
We've Got the Edible Toothpaste!

You have ideas! Now go forth and post them in the comments section!

A few reminders...

Ok, Folks, Saturday's the Big Show, and it'll be here before you know it! I know you're all a little nervous, and that's ok. If it's any comfort I always get nervous on your behalf at these tournaments, too, because I want you to do well! Anyway, a few reminders before the tournament:
  • Be on time! Remember that you have to be there by 7:15 AM for check-in, and you'll be dropped if I haven't seen you by 7:30. Please, please, PLEASE don't be late!
  • Dress nicely! We talked about dress code earlier in the week, so there shouldn't be any problems. Gentlemen, remember to bring a tie. If you need help tying it, I'll be happy to help you. Also, ladies, if you need to bring slippers to wear between rounds for the sake of your feet, please do so.
  • Remember to bring your debate cases and evidence! It's going to be a long day if you forget those!
  • Remember to bring your speech scripts! Just in case...
  • Plan on staying through awards! You need to support your teammates. Think of it as part of the comradeship inherent in a program of this nature.
  • Let's get pizza afterwards! Papa O's on Coffee & Hageman. After awards. Be there! And bring money if you want to eat. Parents, you're welcome to join us if you'd like.
Let me know if you've got questions or concerns, OK?

Peace...

Back-to-School Night

I really enjoyed seeing so many parents at B2S Night tonight. All of this year's parents seem really interested in helping the program, and I'm looking forward to working with them this year. As for all of you, make sure you're memorizing your speeches! Saturday's going to get here sooner than you think! Also, we're going to resurrect the time-honored forensics tradition of going for pizza after the tournament Saturday. Bring your money and we'll meet at Papa O's on Coffee/Hageman after awards Saturday night. Questions? You know where I am!

Peace...

Something for you to look at...

Today's Bakersfield Californian has a pretty substantial article about NASA's plans for returning to the moon. The article is mostly in the context of Boeing's contract to build the new moonships, but that will definitely tie into some of the things we've been talking about re: budgetary concerns and public perception of NASA and its mission. I suspect that most of the major papers/websites (LA TIMES, CNN, etc.) will have related articles.

Also, I've sent out the two handbooks in separate e-mails. If you didn't receive them yet, please post a comment here along with your e-mail address. I'll resend them either this evening or tomorrow morning.

Peace,
Ziegler
