Back-to-School Night
I really enjoyed seeing so many parents at B2S Night tonight. All of this year's parents seem really interested in helping the program, and I'm looking forward to working with them this year. As for all of you, make sure you're memorizing your speeches! Saturday's going to get here sooner than you think! Also, we're going to resurrect the time-honored forensics tradition of going for pizza after the tournament Saturday. Bring your money and we'll meet at Papa O's on Coffee/Hageman after awards Saturday night. Questions? You know where I am!
Peace...

Ok. Mike's event is Oratorical Interpretation, which means he's not giving a speech ABOUT someone, but a speech BY someone (ie MLK's "I Have A Dream" or Patrick Henry's "Give Me Liberty"). If we're looking for something in the short term, I recommend FDR's speech from right after Pearl Harbor. I think it's something like "Roosevelt Declares War on Japan" or something. Most of your speech archives (www.historyplace.com, www.americanrhetoric.com, etc.) should have it. It's a little short, right around 5 minutes, but it's easy to memorize and easy to give well, and should give Mike a little more confidence in his abilities, even if he ends up not winning an award this weekend. If he doesn't have it by tomorrow, I'll try and dig up my copy at school.
Thanks,
Dave
